Ministries
You will discover at Ramsey a community of warm, inviting, and enthusiastic people. Through our ministries, whether for our children, our youth, ourselves or those in need, we strive for a better understanding of the Lord's teachings and to share the warmth of living by what we learn.
Community Outreach
Ramsey strives to make a positive difference in our community by actively supporting a number of vital outreach ministries
- Tutoring- One on one tutoring for area elementary aged school children and use of computer lab
- Middle School Mentoring Program
- Girl Scouts- Ramsey sponsors troops for girls of all ages
- Meals On Wheels - Delivery of meals to homes of the elderly & disabled everyday
- Thanksgiving Baskets- Given to families to enrich the celebration of Thanksgiving
- English & Spanish as a Second Language Classes - ESL assists people from other countries to learn the English language. SSL helps facilitate communication with our Hispanic neighbors.
- Upward Basketball - Using Basketball to tell boys and girls in Grades 1-6 about God's love
- Living Nativity - Since 1957, our Living Nativity has been held the week before & on Christmas Eve. Church members stand with living animals to a narrative telling the story of our Lord’s birth.
- CARITAS - Once or twice a year we house & feed the homeless for a week
- Red Cross Emergency Shelter Team - Volunteers set up Red Cross Shelter in case of a local disaster. Shelter will include food, a place to rest & resources from Red Cross.
- Blood Drive - Holds blood drives 3-4 year.
- White Christmas - Sunday School classes, UMW Circles, & congregation sponsor families & individuals in need. Food baskets, clothing & toys are provided.
- Emergency Assistance - Providing pastors & staff with "United Way Information & Referral Center - Quick Guide to Human Services" for District 15. It includes services in Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Powhatan, & Richmond.
- Food Pantry - Providing groceries on the 4th Wednesday of each month for the local poor
- Hermitage Volunteers - assist in a variety of activities and with resident needs at the Hermitage retirement home, from working in the thrift shop to mending clothing for residents.
- TOPS - Taking Off Pounds Sensibly – Thursdays
Education
Ramsey has a variety of educational opportunities to help you grow in your faith.
Opportunities throughout the year include:
- Sunday School- Classes for all ages starting at 9:45 am
- Disciple Bible Study- Learn the scriptures through a 32 week study held in small groups.
- Bible Classes - A variety of Bible study classes to fit every interest and schedule are held throughout the year.
- Spanish Bible Study - Every other Friday night
- Vacation Bible School - Summer fun for all ages, dinner and nursery provided.
- Confirmation & Membership Classes - Learn about being a Methodist. Classes for 7th graders and new members.
- Sunday School Day of Celebration - A day to promote Sunday School and our classes!
Fellowship
Ramsey has a variety of fun and gathering activities- Lenten Service Dinners - Before Wednesday worship services
- Easter Sunday breakfast
- Periodic covered-dish dinners
- Co-ed Volleyball, Softball, Bowling, and Wiffle Ball
- 55+ Luncheons: Monthly luncheons & time for fellowship
Membership Care
Ramsey has a variety of ways to support its members- Shepherding Program - Church members call and check on other church members
- Hospitality - A ministry to welcome others & develops a mindset within the congregation to treat all persons coming onto church property as though they were Christ.
Missions
Ramsey actively supports many causes with our time, talents, gifts, and service- Send individuals from our church on short term mission trips, such as Volunteers in Mission, Voices of Youth, and Disaster Relief
- Sponsorship of two missionaries – Judy Matheny, McDowell Mission in Southern West Virginia and Steve Hodges, Jubilee Project in Hancock County, Tennessee
- Native American Sponsorship through the Agape Sunday School Class
- Emergency Relief Assistance through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief)
Stewardship
Stewardship is not about putting money in the collection plate, but about fully using our God-given talents, gifts, and resources.- Seminars - Seminars held throught the year on topics such as basic financial planning, writing resumes for employment , etc.
- Commitment Sunday - September 24, 2006 - A special guest speaker & a catered lunch
- Ministry Fair - Event to learn more about our church’s programs, classes & activities
Health and Wellness
Led by the church’s parish nurse, the health advisory council focuses on strengthening the health of the congregation through health education programs, & support of members of the congregation who are ill.- Regularly scheduled blood pressure screenings
- Health related topics in monthly newsletter & on bulletin boards
- Special education programs on health topics such as diabetes and grief/loss
- Spiritual based exercise programs
United Methodist Women
A community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of missions through participation in the global ministries of the church. All women of the church are invited to join!- Church Women United

Worship
Ramsey shows its faith in a number of worship opportunities- Three worship services are provided each Sunday: 8:30am, 11:00am , and a service in Spanish at 12:30pm
- Wednesday Night Worship: gatherings/discussion group at 7pm
- Spanish Christmas Eve Service: 8pm (CLC)
- Wednesday Lent Worship Services: Dinner provided by the members of the church followed by services conducted by visiting speakers
- Special Services held for Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Children's Sabbath, World Communion Sunday, and Thanksgiving
- Easter Sunday: Services start at 6:30am for sunrise service in the parking lot and then continues with the regularly scheduled services
- Christmas Eve Worship Services: 6:00pm, 7:30pm and 11:00pm
- Communion is available for the first Sunday of each month as well as many special services
- Music Ministry- sharing faith through music with a variety of music minsitry opportunities for all ages
- Prayer Chain - Supported by our members to remember those in need of prayer
- Taped services, bulletins, and sanctuary flowers taken by our church visitors to our shut-ins
Youth
An energetic group of 6th – 12th graders prepared for whatever comes along our way, ready and willing.We meet every Sunday at:- Junior High meets from 5:30 - 7:00 pm
- Senior High meets from 6:00 - 8:00 pm
- Both groups meets together from 6 – 6:30 pm for Dinner
- Every 5th Sunday of the month is Youth Sunday, where the youth lead the worship service
